House Democrats Demand Emergency Session to Stop Trump’s “Reckless War of Choice” in Middle East

By Worldwide Observer News Desk | April 7, 2026

House Democratic Leadership has issued a sweeping and urgent statement condemning President Donald Trump’s threat to eradicate an entire civilization, calling for Congress to return to session immediately and vote to end what they are describing as a reckless war of choice in the Middle East.

The statement, issued under the heading “House Democratic Leadership Statement on Donald Trump’s Threat to Kill a Whole Civilization,” pulls no punches. Democrats declared Trump “completely unhinged,” saying his threat to eradicate an entire civilization “shocks the conscience” and demands a decisive congressional response before, in their words, Trump “plunges our country into World War III.”

The human cost cited in the statement is stark. House Democratic Leadership reports that over a dozen American service members have already been killed in the Middle East, with hundreds more injured. Gas prices are described as skyrocketing, the cost of living as out of control, and billions in taxpayer dollars as being consumed by a conflict the Democrats characterise as entirely of Trump’s making.

Democrats also turned their fire on their Republican colleagues, accusing the GOP of years of enabling and excusing what they called Trump’s “deeply dangerous and extreme behavior.” The statement calls on House Republicans to break ranks with their party leadership and join Democrats in halting the escalation framing it explicitly as a matter of patriotic duty over party loyalty.

The call for an emergency congressional session represents a significant escalation in domestic political opposition to Trump’s Middle East policy, and comes as the international community also pushes back sharply. Earlier today, Pope Leo condemned Trump’s threats as “unacceptable.” France’s Foreign Minister urged restraint. Russia and China vetoed a UN Security Council resolution, drawing appreciation from Tehran. And Pakistan’s Foreign Minister accused Israel of sabotaging ceasefire talks that Islamabad had been quietly facilitating.

On multiple fronts at home and abroad the walls appear to be closing in on the Trump administration’s Iran strategy.
